AAHCI-MENA Webinar - Family Coping After a Disaster: The Case of the Beirut Explosion

This webinar focused on the effect of mental health from individuals, children, and the community in Beirut, Lebanon, in response to the Beirut explosion that occurred on August 4, 2020. Dr. Fadi Maalouf shared firsthand experience of treating such patients and how the Department of Psychiatry at American University of Beirut has worked on the frontline to respond to the local community’s needs in response to this traumatic event. Additionally, Dr. Maalouf addressed other challenges in Lebanon, such as COVID-19 and economic hardship that have added to the negative impact on mental health. Recommendations, data collection, and observations were shared for mental healthcare professionals.
