Consideration of the social determinants of health has clearly been recognized as one of the defining issues of the health of communities. Academic health centers are therefore increasingly looking for ideas and solutions as to how best include the social determinants of health in their education, research and clinical programs. AAHC’s Global Issues Forum (formerly known as the “International Forum”) will bring together academic health center leaders to learn and discuss solutions to the formidable challenges presented by this seminal issue. Topics to be explored include:

  • Leadership strategies for institutional change
  • Program models and best practices for academic health centers addressing the social determinants of health
  • Measuring and demonstrating the impact on the health and well-being of communities and populations served by the academic health center
  • Academic health centers and the local, regional, and international partnerships that create a positive impact on population health
