2019 Research Meeting
From Discovery to the Public Good: Translational Science in Academic Health
The role of the technology transfer office, first established years ago in a different economic and healthcare landscape, has grown substantially in prominence and significance. Innovation, acceleration, and technology incubators are now entrenched in the academic health center infrastructure. Often in partnership with the community and private companies, faculty increasingly are encouraged to consider commercializing their breakthroughs, protecting them with patents, and creating startup companies. How are entrepreneurship and commercialization evolving in the academic health center dialogue and mission? The 2019 AAHC Research Meeting focused on the challenges and opportunities in this new era of translational science: the dynamics that determine success; how to overcome challenges; and lessons learned.
