The meeting was hosted by Western University in London, Ontario, Canada, home to the Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre, London, Ontario. Participants explored innovative ways to integrate technology and healthcare within an academic health center.

The 2016 SAFO meeting program focused on the financial and business aspects of Culture and Change Management, exploring how academic health centers and other industries are fiscally and operationally approaching culture transformation, human capital, and ongoing institutional change. Meeting sessions addressed topics such as leadership development, strategic diversity, faculty engagement, governance and administration, recruitment and retention, and other challenging aspects of cultural and institutional change.

Consideration of the social determinants of health has clearly been recognized as one of the defining issues of the health of communities. Academic health centers are therefore increasingly looking for ideas and solutions as to how best include the social determinants of health in their education, and clinical programs. AAHC's Global Issues Forum (formerly known as the "International Forum") brought together academic health center leaders to learn and discuss solutions to the formidable challenges presented by this seminal issue.
