Scope of Practice

The boundaries for scope of practice for the various health care disciplines continue to change, including the evolving relationship between medicine and machines as artificially intelligent platforms play an increasingly larger role in medical practice.

AAHC’s new Thought Leadership Institute is tackling this issue which is summarized in our recent report.

Among the health workforce issues discussed in the AAHC’s landmark report, Out of Order, Out of Time: The State of the Nation’s Health Workforce, was the state-by-state patchwork of laws, regulations, and professional standards relating to health professions scope of practice and licensure. Often, these rules prevent some health professionals from practicing to the full extent of their training, thereby limiting their effectiveness in addressing health workforce.

Scope of Practice Roundtable Initiative

Similar to its roundtable series in GME, AAHC will be launching an effort to convene stakeholder discussions across the country to gather information for members and to inform policy makers about these important changes.
