The New Organizational Structure. The meeting of the Executive Leadership Group of Senior Administrative and Fiscal Officers (SAFO) addressed the new organizational structure of academic health centers. The group discussed pressing issues facing academic health centers, including the impact of health reform on academic health centers, new costs models, and the successful implementation of strategic plans. Specific sessions addressed the financial and administrative concerns of managing faculty and new perspectives on the funding of research. JudyAnn Bigby, MD, Secretary of Health and Human Services for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts spoke on health reform and lessons learned, as well as strategies for the future.
