Collaborative Partnerships to Enhance Education, Science and Population Health

The Association of Academic Health Centers’ (AAHC) International Forum was held in Washington, DC, on 28-29 March 2011.  The theme of the meeting, Collaborative Partnerships to Enhance Education, Science and Population Health, highlighted a series of successful international academic health center collaborations, presented the ideas of thought leaders, and considered approaches to address the social determinants of health.   

Chaired by Dr. Victor Dzau, chancellor for health affairs, Duke University, the meeting brought together academic health center leaders from around the world to discuss emerging issues, share management strategies, and identify areas for collaboration.  Speakers included Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham PC, KBE, Paul Hamlyn chair of surgery, Imperial College London, author of “The Darzi Report” High Quality Care for All, and chairman of the Institute of Global Health Innovation; and Dr. Jianqun Yan, vice-president, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an, China.
