The meeting theme, Compliance in the Digital Age: Technologies, Transparency, and Innovation focused on several critical issues including: electronic health records; the current use of, potential for, and risks in social networking sites by students, staff, faculty, and volunteers; training for responsible conduct-of-research procedures; export controls in an academic setting; and conflict of interest - policies and reactions. 

Speakers for this dynamic agenda included two officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) -- Dr. Robert Nelson, pediatric ethicist in the Office of Pediatric Therapeutics, who participated in a panel on responsible conduct of research training; and Karena Cooper, JD, regulatory counsel in the Division of Scientific Investigations of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, who led a session on preparing for and responding to FDA site visits.
