Developing International Partnerships in Academic Medicine
The theme, "Developing International Partnerships in Academic Medicine," addressed the strategies, benefits, and consequences of developing international partnerships in times of global economic stress. Representatives from Australia, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, China, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand examined how to establish and structure academic health center models that can sustain and expand the tripartite educational, research, and service missions. In the face of changing population needs, national demands, and international expectations, participants explored innovative education and training programs, resolving conflicts between the academic and clinical demands, and fostering collaborative research.
The Asia-Pacific meeting expanded participants’ understanding of the issues, concerns, and strategies of academic health center leaders, and established a foundation for future partnerships. As AAHC International™ increasingly serves as the leading international resource on the administration and management of academic health centers worldwide, bringing together global leaders for face-to-face conversations not only strengthens the collective knowledge base, but builds collaborative alliances that ultimately enhance health and well-being.
