Workgroup on Education and External Relations

Chair:  Samuel J. Tilden, MD, JD, LLM, Deputy Provost for Human Subjects Research, Research Compliance Officer, and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Workgroup Mission:

  • Establish relationships with officials in both the in the Office of Inspector General and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to open a dialogue concerning clinical trials billing in academic health centers.
  • Develop an issue agenda to educate federal officials about the complexities of clinical trials in academic health centers, and to promote long term relationships between government officials and the AAHC Forum on Regulation.
  • Consider options for meeting and workshops with federal officials in both OIG and CMS.
  • Examine the feasibility for and develop an agenda to bring together regional medical directors with the Forum on Regulation to engage in dialogue on regional variations in standard of care determination.
  • Monitor the National Coverage Decision and provide follow up and comment to the AAHC.
  • Explore other education activities deemed appropriate.
  • Work with AAHC staff to determine what resources and support will be needed.
